Being There

In a recent gathering I ask a question. How do you show love? One of the answers I got was "being there". I Cor 13:4-8 gives us the attributes of love, one of which is that love is kind. What a thought! By being there I am being kind and therefore showing the love of Christ. After all we are supposed to be emulating (mimicking, copying) Christ and he is described as a "friend that sticketh closer than a brother", (Prov 18:24). It was the Apostle Paul that promised us that us Jesus would never leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5). Jesus is really good a "being there".

One of the realities of the Christian walk is that we stumble and at times we even fall down (Psa 37:23-24 and Proverbs 24:16). As troubling as those times are they also present tremendous opportunity. During those hours we either get to be there, or we have someone who gets to be there for us. We get to play our part in fulfilling Eccl 4:10 - we either lift or allow someone to lift us.
Whether we are the giving or receiving we are being allowed to be part of the demonstration of His love by being there.

God please give me the ability to be there with compassion, tenderness and meekenss. When it is my turn to receive, when someone is there for me, let me receive it with humility and a truly thankful heart.
